Terms of Service
Last updated August 7, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Vela. Please read them before using the app.
Acceptance of these terms
By downloading, accessing, or using the Vela mobile app (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
What Vela is
Vela is a calm productivity app. It lets you plan your days, build habits and projects from small steps, capture ideas, save and practise vocabulary, focus in timed stretches, set daily limits on distracting apps, and wake up to a real alarm — and control all of it by voice. We may add, change, or remove features over time as the app evolves.
Your account
You're responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your login secure. You agree to provide accurate information and to let us know if you believe your account has been compromised. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your country to use the Service.
Membership, billing, and auto-renewal
Vela is a paid membership. There is no free trial. Plans are offered as:
- Weekly — $7.99 per week
- Monthly — $9.99 per month
- Annual — $79.99 per year (the best value, about $6.67 per month)
Prices may vary by region and currency; the exact price is always shown in the app before you buy. The following auto-renewal terms apply:
- Purchases are processed through your Apple App Store or Google Play account, which is charged when you confirm the purchase.
- Your membership automatically renews at the then-current price for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You manage and cancel your membership in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.
- Refunds, where available, are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we generally can't issue store refunds directly.
- If we change prices, we'll provide notice as required by the app stores; continuing after a change takes effect means you accept the new price.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful or harmful.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems.
- Abuse, overload, or attempt to circumvent limits on the AI and voice features.
- Upload content you don't have the right to, or that infringes others' rights.
Your content
You keep ownership of the words, plans, ideas, and other content you put into Vela. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that content solely to operate the Service for you (for example, to sync it across your devices and to run the AI features you request). You're responsible for the content you add.
AI features
Some features generate content automatically — word meanings and examples, note improvements, and interpretations of your voice commands. This output can be inaccurate or incomplete, and it is not professional, legal, medical, or financial advice. Please use your own judgment and verify anything important.
Alarms, focus and app limits — what they are not
Vela's wake-up alarm uses your device's system alarm features so it rings through Silent mode and Focus. Even so, it depends on your device being powered on and working, on the permissions you granted, and on your operating system behaving as expected. It is a convenience, not a safety-critical system— please don't rely on it alone for anything where being woken matters critically, such as medication, travel, or work with safety implications.
App limits are enforced through your device's own screen-time features. They are a tool for limiting your own use, not a parental-control or monitoring service: you can change or remove a limit yourself at any time, and Vela does not report your activity to us or to anyone else. Nothing in Vela is a medical device or a treatment for any condition.
Intellectual property
The Service itself — including its software, design, and branding — belongs to Vela and its licensors and is protected by law. These terms don't grant you any rights to our trademarks or to the app beyond using it as intended.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,”without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet every expectation.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vela will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months before the claim.
Termination
You can stop using Vela at any time and delete your account from within the app. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms or misuse the Service. Some provisions — such as content ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — survive termination.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Service changes. When we make material changes, we'll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Vela after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
App Store terms
These terms are between you and Vela only — not with Apple — and Vela alone is responsible for the app and its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Vela. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app. Vela, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product-liability, legal or regulatory non-compliance, and consumer-protection claims, and for investigating and resolving any third-party claim that the app infringes intellectual-property rights. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and, on your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable where the app owner is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here limits any consumer-protection rights you have under the mandatory laws of your own country.
